DIY driftwood takes time, but it can save you a great deal of money. Some small parts cost above $20. Also, the method (minus salt) works for store bought driftwood. Store-bought driftwood is cleaned and hasn't been soaked. This may bring about tannins being released in to your container

What youll need:

Driftwood, which is often found everywhere. It generally does not always have to result from the water saltless water softener . You could find it in the woods, as long as it is weathered down and looks special. Also make certain the wood isn't aging.

BIG placing container, I use a 15 woman rubber maid container.

Tank Salt, I take advantage of Doc Wellfish manufacturer. This is used as an all-natural way of killing bacteria and parasites.

First step, clear off-your wood! Make certain all bark and trash are taken from the wood (or itll fall down in your tank!). Once full, boil the water within the BIG container and put aquarium sodium. I take advantage of about a tablespoon per gallon. Boil the entire piece for about 2-4 hours based on your size. You will need to boil one other half if you could just match half the wood within the pot then.

You can transfer your wood into the rubber maid package once the steam is complete. Add water before whole bit of wood is under water (you can also add salt if you want). In the event the wood does not destroy place something on top of it until it does. Itll drain after having a fortnight. Youll notice the water become tea-ish color. It's the result of the tannins which are introduced to the water. In the event that you didnt soak the wood, the water in your tank could be this color. Tannins are natural and some fishes actually want it since itll cause them to become feel more in the home. Itll also influence your PH, Im not sure about GH or KH. Youll should do water changes every-other day to clean the water. This might take weeks or months home water softeners .

You will have to soak your wood for another week without the salt, If the shade of the water suffices. This will make certain that the wood doesn't keep any salt that may leak in to your tank.

Once treating is total wash the wood well and transfers the wood into your tank. Don't keep the wood from water for quite a while or it will flow.
